3 ways of Finding God in the Whisper and the Storm
In today’s readings, we explore how we can Find God in the Whisper and the Storm. Elijah and Peter show us that God is present both in silence and in chaos, and that faith grows when we learn to listen and trust.
1. Listen for God in the Whisper
Elijah waits for the Lord to pass by. He feels the wind tear through the mountains, the earth tremble, and fire blaze — yet God is not in any of these.
Then comes a tiny whispering sound, and Elijah recognizes the Lord.
This is the first way we Find God in the Whisper and the Storm: by quieting our hearts. God often speaks through stillness, through gentle nudges, through moments of peace. When we slow down, we begin to notice His presence in the ordinary.
2. Trust God in the Storm
Peter sees Jesus walking toward him on the water. The waves are high, the wind is strong, and fear grips his heart. Yet Jesus says, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
Peter steps out of the boat. For a moment, faith carries him. Then fear returns, and he begins to sink. “Lord, save me!” he cries. Immediately Jesus reaches out His hand.
This is the second way we Find God in the Whisper and the Storm: by trusting that God is with us even when life feels overwhelming. His hand is already extended.
3. Call Out to God with Confidence
Paul’s sorrow for his people shows that faith can carry pain and longing. Yet he continues to love, to hope, and to trust.
This is the third way we Find God in the Whisper and the Storm: by calling out to God with confidence. When we panic, doubt, or feel alone, God hears us. He responds with compassion, strength, and mercy.
Living the Message
Faith doesn’t remove the storm. It reminds us who walks through it with us. Faith doesn’t eliminate fear. It teaches us where to turn. Faith doesn’t silence life’s noise. It helps us hear God’s whisper. This is how we continue to Find God in the Whisper and the Storm — in silence, in struggle, and in every moment of grace.
