There are days when the weight we carry feels heavier than our strength. Yet Christ reminds us that we are never asked to walk alone.

Today – just today – we can lay down fear, anger, anxiety, and every shadow that dims the light of our hearts.

We can breathe in the Spirit’s peace, trusting that God’s love is enough in this moment.

We don’t need tomorrow’s strength; we can ask for that tomorrow. We only need today’s grace.

And in that grace, we can carry Christ to every person we meet, returning at day’s end to rest again in His love. In that love, may we return, at the dawn of a new day, and ask God’s help once again.

Lord, please, just today.

This brief reflection flows from the prayer, “Lord Please, Just Today“, from the book  “Amidst Life’s Clouds, a NEW DAY,  encountering the Presence of God.https://deaconbobhartman.com/

“Then he said to all, “Anyone who wants to follow me must put aside his own desires and conveniences and carry his cross with him every day and keep close to me!  Luke 9:23 (The Living Bible)

Two days ago, on Wednesday, our foreheads were marked with ashes in the form of a cross, a reminder of our fallen nature, and our need to be cleansed from our impurities, from our sins . Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent, 2026.

For Christians, lent is an invitation to journey with Jesus, reflecting on events of His life as He journeyed toward Jerusalem.

The above passage from Luke is very blunt: we are to carry our own crosses, every day, and keep close to Him. So as we move though this special time, let us more fully access this season of grace, asking God’s help and guidance to open our eyes to the crosses that we carry, our own human frailty. Let us bring our weaknesses, repent for our sins, fears, anger, doubts, or whatever else dims our focus toward Christ our Savior, to Him, and seek His mercy.

Let us also remember that we are not alone, everyone has their own cross(es) to bear. Luke 23:26 tells us that Simon helped Jesus carry His cross. We can be Simon to one another, to help one another as we journey together toward our destination, the Heavenly Jerusalem.

Lets journey forward together.

Peace and blessings.       Dcn. Bob
